Market Types
Understanding Payouts
How you're paid depends on the market type. Every market shows an LMSR or DPM badge.
LMSR markets: Your payout is fixed when you trade. Each share pays $1 if its outcome wins, so the number of shares you buy decides what you'll receive. The trade form shows this before you confirm, and later trades don't change it. What changes is what your position is worth if you sell now, which moves with the market. You can sell any part of a position, from a small slice to all of it, at any time before trading closes.
DPM markets: Your payout is an estimate. Winners split the pool, so what your shares are worth depends on how much ends up on each outcome, and that keeps changing until trading closes. My Payout Preview shows what you'd receive if the market resolved right now. Selling liquidates your entire position in that outcome. Partial sells aren't supported.
When the market settles to a winning outcome, your winning shares become claimable, at $1 each on LMSR or your share of the pool on DPM. Redeem them from the market page or the Claimable tab in Activity.
If the market closes with No Outcome, no outcome wins, on either market type. Each position is worth its final market price when trading closed. On LMSR, for example, a share priced at 12% pays $0.12. You can claim these from Payouts in Activity.
Market Lifecycle
Every market on Delphi moves through these stages:
Active: The market is open for trading. Anyone can buy and sell positions on the available outcomes. Odds shift in real time as trades are placed.
Pending settlement: Trading has closed. For an automated market, settlement is scheduled or running and may take up to 48 hours. No more trades can be placed.
Settled: A winning outcome was selected and winning shares are claimable.
No outcome: No winning outcome was declared. The automated workflow may not select an outcome. A Legacy manual market may miss its settlement deadline. Positions pay at final market prices and can be claimed from Payouts in Activity.
Removed: The market was removed under Delphi's policy process.
Existing Legacy markets use manual settlement. Their creators have 24 hours after close to settle them. See Settling a Market Manually.
